Cross border meetings

The crime investigation units of Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau's police forces held their second tripartite meeting on March 14. Led by Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Peter Yam Tat-wing, Force representatives met their counterparts for the meeting at the Police Officers' Club.

The Guangdong and Macau delegations were led by the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department Office of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, Zheng Dong, and Macau Security Co-ordination Office Secretary General Intendant Diamantino J. Santos.

They reviewed joint efforts in combating triads, human smuggling, commercial crimes, and drug abuse by youngsters. And they called for enhanced co-operation and exchange of intelligence.

  • Marine and New Territories North Regional Commanders Spencer Foo Tsun-kong and John Chung Hiu-pang met Guangdong Border Defence Bureau Director Lin Jieyuan in Shenzhen on March 6, to discuss the strengthening of boundary management.

The meeting saw both sides liaise on numerous issues, including measures to prevent illegal immigrants from sneaking into Hong Kong, preventing unlawful entry of criminal elements to the Mainland, and the interception of drugs and fireworks.

Last year's joint efforts to crack down on illegal immigration were affirmed, seeing a 30 per cent drop in IIs in 2000, over 1999. Both sides agreed to continue co-operation and co-ordination.
