TST dash for charity cash

Scores of Force staff hit the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run on May 6, to raise $600,000 for Special Olympics competitors.

This year's event saw some 260 Force runners, among the 1,000-plus field, taking to the 2.2 kilometre route outside the Cultural Centre Piazza. In a top effort, the panting police managed to sweat up an extra $100,000 on last year's total.

Assistant Commissioner (Information Systems) Peter Halliday led the Police team, who once again tallied the highest donation among the participating forces, namely the Immigration, Fire Services, Customs and Excise, and Correctional Services Departments, the Independent Commission Against Corruption, and the Government Flying Service.

Director of Management Services Gordon Fung Siu-yuen received a souvenir on behalf of the Force participants, from Secretary for Security Regina Ip who officiated at the event. Information Systems Wing, Personnel Services Branch and Wong Tai Sin District were the Force's three top fund spinners.

The event saw a grand total of $1 million raised to provide training and scholarships for Special Olympics athletes.
