CCB officers extolled for cull on fake card gangs

Card sharp: CCB officers receive their plaques of praise from the credit card industry

The Force has been commended by the payment card industry for cracking several large international counterfeit card syndicates operating in Hong Kong.

Payment Card Association representatives presented appreciative plaques to Commercial Crime Bureau Senior Superintendent (Fraud) Chan Chin-cheung, Superintendent John Ribeiro, Detective Senior Inspector Crusade Yau Siu-kei and other officers on May 30, for cracking the forgery gangs.

Investigations by CCB's Counterfeit and Forgery Division in recent months have culminated in the neutralisation of several other international syndicates.

These saw the numerous arrests of Japanese and Swiss nationals.

DSIP Yau said in most of the cases, syndicate members would target retail outlets selling luxury items that could easily be re-sold in their home countries.

"We have found our efforts to combat international fraudsters using Hong Kong as a place of operation received a great boost when judges handed down some heavy deterrent sentences recently."
