MK youth summer campaign starts

Police, DFCC and JPC members take to the MK streets to raise crime awareness

Mong Kok District is encouraging local youths to make the most out of their summer school holidays by taking up healthy and constructive activities. June 29 saw the District launch its Smart Utilisation of Summer Vacation campaign in Sai Yeung Choi Street South, erecting display boards and handing out leaflets with District Fight Crime Committee and Junior Police Call members.

Assistant District Commander Operations So Kam-tong said as MK was a popular shopping and entertainment venue, youngsters often frequented video game centres, shopping arcades, parks and entertainment establishments, particularly during long holidays, and were exposed to crime.

"We are very concerned about youngsters being induced to commit crime or being victimised. Every summer holiday juvenile crime goes up," Superintendent So said.

The crimes included deception of summer job seekers, shoptheft, assault, snatching, triad-related crime and drug abuse.

"Through a series of campaigns up to September, we hope youngsters will be alert to criminals trying to use them, to summer-job traps, bullies and psychotropic drugs," SP So added.

The day also saw the District's Uniform Branch, Crime and Crime Prevention Unit officers join the Police Tactical Unit's Bravo Company to conduct inspections and distribute leaflets at game centres and shopping arcades.
