Holiday homes better than ever

The Personnel Services Branch Recreation Unit has made great efforts to improve the quality of Police holiday facilities in recent past years. New elements such as local/China hotel packages were added to the conventional provision of holiday flats.

Assistant Police Welfare Officer (Recreation Unit) Alice Ho said: "A pilot scheme was launched in June last year to reserve three hotel room packages daily from the Harbour Plaza Resort City as alternative holiday units. Response was overwhelming. The number of rooms reserved has since increased to six daily.

"With more Hong Kong people taking short Mainland trips, three rooms daily from the Clifford Hotel, Panyu, are offered to Force members. The latest addition is the hotel package from the Gold Coast Hotel."

Ms Ho added: "During the summer vacation, demand for holiday facilities is usually high. This year, the Recreation Unit is well prepared for the holiday rush. The Unit offers 15 holiday flats in Cheung Chau, Lantau Island and Tai Po, and 19 hotel rooms at the Gold Coast Hotel, Harbour Plaza Resort City and Clifford Hotel. In addition, the two Police recreation centres at Tai Mei Tuk and Tso Wo Hang are also ready for officers of all ranks."

Each facility is unique. Pegasus Villa on Cheung Chau is a single dwelling unit with two floors, a rooftop and a breath-taking panoramic sea view.

Tso Wo Hang Police Recreation Centre has four rooms for overnight accommodation and the on-site contractor offers a variety of Chinese and Western dishes, and will cook up anything you catch from the nearby fishing pier!

Bookings for all these premises can be made through the Holiday Home Information System website on POINT. Or you can fax your application to 2804-1137. For more details and enquiries, please visit the website or call the Recreation Unit on 2804-1135/1136 or e-mail ps-holiday-home-facility-unit.

Moreover, during the summer vacation, the Police Sports and Recreation Club and the Police Officers' Club have arranged a variety of summer activities for members and their families. Although most activities are fully booked, there are still some openings in the swimming and Putonghua classes. A well-equipped fitness training room is a new free PSRC feature. PSRC enquiries can be made on 2777-1218.

Furthermore, the POC has upgraded its karaoke facilities for catering functions. Members can play their favourite VCDs and LDs in the TSK Hall and VIP Room. A new selection of popular VCDs is also available. Details and enquiries can be made to 2591-1912 or 2591-1917.
