Force Byte - Opening O2K templates for editing

Welcome again! Last time, we learnt how to use the O2K templates. How do you feel about them? May be you would like to edit them to best suit your needs?

Well, you will find you cannot as they have been protected by a default setup. You need to unprotect them first before you can make any changes. Here are the steps you need to change the template:

1) Open your chosen template according to the steps in the previous issue, but choose "Template" instead of "Document" in the "Create New" selection area near the bottom right of the "New" dialog box;

2) Choose "Unprotect Document" from the "Tools" menu or click the icon once on the toolbar;

3) Edit the content of the template;

4) Protect the template again when finished, by choosing "Protect Document" from the "Tools" menu.

Take all the default settings and press in the "Protect Document" dialog box, or just click the icon once again on the toolbar;

5) Save the revised template with a proper file name under the "Personal" folder (c:\user\Templates\Personal), which is designated for storing your personalised templates;

6) Use this revised template in the "Personal" folder to create your office correspondence from now on. Simple? In fact there is always a small and simple trick that can help you a lot in your work.

If you have any similar tactics, please do not hesitate to send them to us via the PEN account ap2-ss34-a-itb@police.gov.hk so it can be shared with others in the Force.

Next time, we will talk about other useful tips, so please don't miss it!
