PA systems possible for small motorcycles?

As the 250cc Honda motorcycles are fitted with loudspeakers, is it possible to install microphones too for the convenience of officers?

Sergeant Chan Shiu-wah
Aberdeen Division

Transport Division responds . . .

The flashing beacons and sirens on small motorcycles were first fitted to the vehicles purchased in the 1996/97 fiscal year. The purpose of the flashing beacons and sirens is to provide assistance for officers going to incidents and for added protection at scenes.

At that time it was considered that there was no need for officers riding small motorcycles to have a public address (PA) system.

There have been very few requests for this feature to be added to small motorcycles, which are essentially workhorses for moving officers around formations. The use of a PA system is not considered necessary for their daily work.

All Police patrol vans and Traffic cars are fitted with PA systems and these can be called to the scene if required.

Force Motor Transport Officer
