Good deeds part of the job

PCs Yeung and Mak by the incident site on Tai Tam Road

Many officers may have helped people in adverse conditions. They may simply consider it another aspect of their job. Yet assistance can often mean a lot to the people in need.

A member of the public recently sent his praise to Stanley Sub-Division Police Constables Yeung Yeung-cheung and Mak Ka-leung for their help in restarting his car on stormy June 27. With the amber rainstorm warning hoisted, the car broke down on Tai Tam Road. The PCs sped to the scene to assist.

PC Yeung said: "To avoid traffic jams or accidents on the narrow carriageway, we moved the car to a safe place. But the bad weather, road inclination and the car's weight made things quite difficult, taking us nearly 15 minutes. The driver tried in vain to restart the engine and I offered to do it for him. I was so glad that my assistance worked."

PC Mak said: "Although soaked and exhausted, we gained great satisfaction and happiness from keeping the driver and his passenger away from inconvenience and trouble. We never expected any reward or compliment for our efforts as it was part of our job."
