Police Choir Silver Jubilee Concert |
||
The Hong Kong Police Choir is to hold its Silver Jubilee Concert at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium on April 30 with 150 guest singers from the Singapore Police Choir, Foshan Gongon, and Foshan Beilei Jinsheng Choir.
The occasion will also mark the change in charimanship from former Assistant Commissioner, Mr Peter Halliday, to the Sha Tin District Commander, Mr John Bicknell.
The Choir was formed in 1977 by just under a dozen male officers who enjoyed singing and playing music together. In 1978, singing became generally more popular, and the Choir started recruiting female voices. Now, 20 years later, there are more than 30 members able to sing in four main styles.
Locally, the Choir has often been invited to sing at various City Hall venues and at New Town centres and estates in the New Territories. The Choir also puts on Christmas concerts in well-known malls such as Pacific Place and Sha Tin New Town, and in the Cheshire Home for the Disabled.
Overseas, the Choir had performed at the 1989 Singapore Police Carnival, the 1999 10-year anniversary of the first event, as well as at the International Police Music Festival held in Victoria, Canada, in 1993, and Essex in l995.
All ranks and grades are welcome to join our weekly practices and enjoy the pure delight of singing together and making new friends. Practices are held at the Police Sports & Recreation Club every Thursday between 7.30 pm and 9.30 pm. More importantly, the Choir hopes that many Force members and their families will join them at the Silver Jubilee Concert. |
