Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 512 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 32 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7pm today (April 11) and a total of 138 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 323 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 189 for other traffic offences.

Sixty-five pedestrians and three hundred forty drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 704 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January to March this year.

Of them, 52.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
