Man jailed for trafficking in a dangerous drug

A 44-year-old man was sentenced to six years' imprisonment for trafficking in dangerous drugs at the High Court today (April 25).

The court heard that following extensive investigations into intelligence collected, officers of Police Narcotics Bureau intercepted the 44-year-old man at 9 Un Chau Street in Sham Shui Po on September 14, 2005.

A plastic bag containing 141 grams of mixture with 90.52 grams of heroin were found inside a waist bag carried by the man. The man was subsequently arrested and later charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug on September 15, 2005.

The haul could fetch about $86,000 if sold in the retail market.

He pleaded guilty to the charge at the High Court on March 6, 2006 and the sentence was handed down today.
