Crowd management and traffic measures for Dragon Boat Festival

Police will perform crowd management duties and implement special traffic arrangements to facilitate the public to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on May 31.

As a large number of people are expected to turn up at various locations throughout Hong Kong to watch the dragon boat races, crowds and traffic will be diverted to ensure a smooth flow.

Police also appeal to members of the public to make full use of the public transport for attending the races.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully and to pay attention to special traffic signs and instructions of traffic Police.

Vehicles found to be causing obstruction will be towed away without prior notice.

Special traffic arrangements will be implemented in Southern District on Hong Kong Island, Sha Tin, Tai Po, and Tuen Mun in the New Territories.

Details are as follows:

1) Southern District

Kwun Hoi Path next to the Ocean Court at Aberdeen Praya Road will be closed between 8 am and 5 pm to all traffic except local residents, Police and emergency service vehicle.

Stanley Link Road and Hoi Fung Path will be closed between 6 am and 7 pm to all traffic except vehicles of local residents, Police and emergency services vehicles.

Most of the parking spaces along Stanley Link Road, Carmel Road and Stanley Beach Road, as well as the public car park near the refuse collection point on Stanley Beach Road will be suspended between 6 am and 7 pm.

The taxi stand on Kwun Hoi Path will be suspended between 8 am and 5 pm while that on Stanley Village Road between 7 am and 7 pm. A temporary taxi stand will be set up at Carmel Road outside Carmelite Monastery.

2) Sha Tin

Both carriageways of Sand Martin Bridge and a section of the cycling track between Sand Martin Bridge and Banyan Bridge on both sides of the Shing Mun River will be closed to traffic and bicycles from 7 am to 2 pm.

During the closure period, all vehicular traffic crossing the Shing Mun River via Sand Martin Bridge will be diverted to use Lion Bridge or Banyan Bridge.

The metered car park off On King Street will be temporarily closed to all vehicles.

3) Tai Po

Dai Hei Street, Dai King Street and a section of Dai Kwai Street at the south junction with Dai Cheong Street will be closed between 7 am to 2 pm to all vehicular traffic except for taxis and those vehicles with prior approval.

Cycling will not be permitted on the closed roads and the cycling track in Tai Po Waterfront Park.

A temporary taxi stand will be provided on Dai Hei Street at the west junction with Dai Kwai Street.

All parking spaces at Dai Shing Street public car park will be suspended.

4) Tuen Mun

Wu Tai Circuit will be closed between 6 am and 5 pm. All metered parking spaces on Wu Tai Circuit will be suspended during this period. Besides, Wu Shan Road between Wu Hong Street and Wu Chui Road will be temporarily designated as no stopping zone.
