Man jailed for trafficking in dangerous drugs

A 44-year-old man was sentenced at the Court of First Instance today (September 8) to 12 years' imprisonment for two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug.

The court heard that officers of Police Narcotics Bureau intercepted the man outside a residential unit on Kiu Kiang Street in Cheung Sha Wan on February 23, 2006.

The man was found in possession of about 415 grams of Cocaine powder.

A subsequent search in the residential unit led to a further seizure of about 305 grams of Cocaine powder and some packaging paraphernalia.

The haul could fetch over $430,000 if sold in the retail market.

The man was arrested and later charged with two counts of trafficking in a dangerous drug. He pleaded guilty to the charges and the sentence was handed down today.
