Anti-triad operation in Kwai Tsing netted 29 persons

Police arrested a total of 29 persons, comprising 23 men and six women, in a three-day anti-triad operation concluded today (January 24).

Codenamed "Beechaser", the operation was mounted from January 22 to 24 with an aim to curb the sources of income and activities of triad gangs in Kwai Tsing areas.

Police officers from Kwai Tsing District including District Crime Squad, District Intelligence Squad, District Anti-triad Squad, District Investigation Team and Special Duty Squad, raided nine locations in Sheung Shui, Kwai Chung, Tsing Yi and Yuen Long to combat the sale of illicit oil, storage of pirated optical discs, etc.

During the three-day operation, Police arrested 23 men and six women aged from 17 to 76 for various offences including possession of dangerous drugs, illegal gambling, assault, claiming to be Members of Triads, offences under Dutiable Commodities Ordinance and Copyright Ordinance, possession of an obscene article for the purpose of publication, breach of conditions of stay, and attempted obtaining property by deception.

A total of 800 litres of illicit oil, 2 000 obscene optical discs and pirated game discs, a small quantity of suspected dangerous drugs, 9 400 grams of fake gold ornaments, some cash and gambling paraphernalia were seized during the operation. The total value of the seizures is estimated at about $45 000.
