Vehicle theft syndicate smashed in Fanling

Police believed to have smashed a cross-region vehicle theft syndicate following the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the arrest of six persons yesterday (June 6).

In the early morning of June 6, Police received reports that two 28-seater tour buses and two light goods vehicles (LGV) were stolen in Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong and Sheung Shui areas.

Following extensive investigations into intelligence collected, officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) raided a depot on Ng Chow South Road in Fanling on the same day. Officers arrested four Pakistani men and one local man aged between 27 and 57 who were loading a stolen LGV into a container at the scene. Another missing 28-seater bus was later recovered inside a temporary sheltered structure at the depot.

Meanwhile, a subsequent house search in one of the Pakistani arrestees' Fanling residence resulted in the arrest of a 33-year-old Nepalese woman.

Further police investigations led to the recovery of another two stolen vehicles comprising of one LGV and one 28-seater tour bus inside a container in Kwai Chung Container Terminal this morning (June 7).

Police believed the key members of a cross-region vehicle theft syndicate were arrested during the operation. The total value of the recovered vehicles worth about $1 million.

The six arrestees were still being detained for further enquiries. Investigations by OCTB are underway.
