The Security Services Best Training Award 2014 (SSBTA) Presentation Ceremony organized by the Crime Prevention Bureau of the Hong Kong Police Force and the Security Services Training Board of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), with the support of the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority (SGSIA) was held successfully at Police Headquarters on 2015-03-27. Officiating guests included Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police LAU Yip-shing, Director of Operations, Mr. Daniel CHAM Ka-hung, JP BBS MH, Chairman of the SGSIA, and Ms. Jane Curzon LO, Chairperson of the Security Services Training Board. Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards were presented to 47 security companies to recognize their efforts to enhance the professional competence of their staff.

The award aimed at encouraging security companies to develop long-term training programmes to enhance the quality and professional competence of their security officers. This would help the Force to maintain law and order and provide an environment conducive for the long-term development of the security industry.

The SSBTA comprises three categories: “Type I Security Company Licence” (offering general security services), “Type II Security Company Licence” (offering armoured transportation services), and “Type III Security Company Licence” (offering design, installation, maintenance and repair service of security systems).

A selection panel comprising representatives of the Force, VTC and SGSIA assessed the resources allocated for training activities by the companies participating in the award scheme. Judging criteria included the number of training hours and the staff involved in the past 12 months, the coverage of the training courses and the involvement and support of the management.
