The Security Services Best Training Award 2015 (SSBTA) Prize Presentation Ceremony was successfully held on 14 March 2016 at Police Headquarters, Wanchai. Officiating guests included Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police LAU Yip-shing, Director of Operations; Mr. Daniel CHAM Ka-hung, JP BBS MH, Chairman of the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority (SGSIA); Ms. Jane Curzon LO, Chairperson of the Security Services Training Board of Vocational Training Council (VTC); as well as Mrs. Deanna TO, Senior Assistant Executive Director of VTC.

A total of 63 Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit Awards were presented to security companies this year in recognition of their efforts in enhancing professional competence of their staff. Among those on the Gold Award list, three companies have been winners for five consecutive years, and for this reason, well-deserved Special Awards were further presented to mark their outstanding achievements.

First started in 2011, the SSBTA aimed at encouraging security companies to develop continuous training programmes in enhancing the professional competence and efficiency of their security officers. Not only will this help the Force maintain law and order, but also provide an environment conducive for the long-term development of the security industry.

The SSBTA was divided into three categories: “Type I Security Company Licence” (offering general security services), “Type II Security Company Licence” (offering armoured transportation services), and “Type III Security Company Licence” (offering design, installation, maintenance and repair service of security systems).

The board of adjudicators comprising representatives from the Force, VTC and SGSIA assessed participating companies’ investments in their training activities. Consideration was given in terms ofthe number of training hours and number of staff involved in the past 12 months, the coverage of the training courses, and the degree of involvement and support from the management.
