In 2024, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government fulfilled its constitutional responsibility of enacting local legislation under Article 23 of the Basic Law. The completion of the legislative process has strengthened the legal system and enforcement mechanisms for safeguarding national security. The Hong Kong’s National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance are compatible and complementary, serving alongside as a strong line of defence to safeguard national security and a further reinforcement of the city’s long-term prosperity and stability. A professional and highly efficient police force is indispensable at the forefront of maintaining law and order. This year is immensely significant as it marks the 180th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Police Force. All members of the Force embrace our proud traditions and uphold our professional commitment to ‘Serving Hong Kong with Honour, Duty and Loyalty’, steadfastly overcome every challenge as we forge ahead to ‘Safeguard our city beyond 180 years’.
