Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB), following extensive investigations, identified in December an international counterfeit credit card syndicate active in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Macao and South East Asian countries.

The syndicate stole credit card data from overseas bank account holders and manufactured counterfeit credit cards in Shenzhen. Then tooges used the cards to make purchases in Hong Kong and Macao and disposed of the loot in Shenzhen.

In view of the cross-border nature of the case, CCB, the Economic Crime Investigation Department (ECID) of the Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau (Shenzhen PSB) and Macao Judiciary Police (MJP) launched a tripartite operation.  After an in-depth investigation lasting for six months, the operation turned overt between June 3 and June 5 this year, resulting in the arrest of a total of 19 suspects in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macao and the smashing of two counterfeit credit card manufacturing centres in Shenzhen, with a total of over 2,360 counterfeit credit cards seized.

On October 11, representatives from the Hong Kong Management Committee-Card Authorisation System in PRC called at CCB and thanked CCB, ECID of Shenzhen PSB and MJP for their efforts.

CCB Chief Superintendent Chung Siu-yeung attributed the success of the operation to the seamless co-operation among the three law enforcement agencies, timely intelligence exchange as well as prompt and professional investigations.

Mr Sou Sio-keong and Mr Liu Yuquan, delegation heads of MJP and ECID of Shenzhen PSB respectively, pledged to continue to maintain close collaboration and spare no effort in tackling international criminal syndicates.
