As elderly pedestrians accounted for a considerable portion of casualties in traffic accidents in recent years, an "Elderly Road Safety Campaign Kick-off Ceremony cum Bus Parade in Yuen Long 2014" was held in Yuen Long Theatre on May 2. Organised by Road Safety Council, Traffic Branch Headquarters, New Territories North Traffic Headquarters, Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, Yuen Long District Council and Senior Police Call, the campaign reminded elders to use road-crossing facilities and comply with traffic legislation.

Officiating at the event were Chairman of the Road Safety Campaign Committee (RSCC), Dr Eric Cheng, District Officer (Yuen Long), Mr Mak Chun-yu, Senior Superintendent Martin Cadman from New Territories North Traffic Headquarters, Vice-Chairman of Yuen Long District Council, Mr Wong Wai-shun, Acting Superintendent Choy Wai-sum, Divisional Commander of Yuen Long Division, Chairman of Traffic and Transport Committee of Yuen Long District Council, Mr Luk Chung-hung, Regional Commander of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (New Territories North), Mr Paul Lau, and two Publicity Officers of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol, Ms Lam Chi-mei and Ms Kelly Chan.

About 1, 000 elders and Non-ethnic Chinese residents in Yuen Long also turned up to support the ceremony in driving road safety messages home to the elders with an educational drama, singing performance and road safety quiz. Immediately after the ceremony, the officiating guests and Elderly Road Safety Ambassadors took part in a bus parade to spread the messages to the elderly pedestrians in Yuen Long.
