New Territories North (NTN) Region staged Prevention of Technology Crime Kick-off Ceremony cum Bus Parade on June 6 in a bid to help the public prevent on-line crime. NTN Regional Commander Chung Siu-yeung officiated at the ceremony with district commanders, district social welfare officers, chairmen of District Fight Crime Committees (DFCC) and the NTN Ambassador for Prevention of Deception, Ms Tse Suet-sum.

The highlight of the ceremony was presentation of certificates of appointment by Deputy Regional Commander Li Chi-hang to 40 Lingnam University undergraduates as Youth Fight Crime Volunteers. Ms Tse made an anti-crime appeal in the ceremony, and non-government organisations also supported the event by setting up displays and game stalls to disseminate crime prevention messages.

After the ceremony, officers from NTN Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO), together with DFCC members, district councillors and Youth Fight Crime Volunteers, proceeded to various districts on board a parade bus to distribute publicity leaflets.

Officers from RCPO NTN and Police Community Relations Offices will continue to visit schools and non-government organisations and give talks to young people. RCPO NTN also maintains close partnership with business companies and trade associations by delivering seminars on prevention of e-mail scams and technology crime. In addition, RCPO NTN adopts a multi-agency approach by inviting other government departments, public utility companies and property management companies to take part in crime prevention activities.
