An Anti Beach-Theft Publicity Campaign was kicked off at Shek O Beach on July 21 to arouse swimmers' crime prevention awareness. Officers and community leaders distributed promotional leaflets to beach-goers and shop operators to remind them to stay alert of "beach rats".


Taking part in the publicity drive included Commander of Eastern District (EDIST) Rupert Dover, Acting Assistant Commander (Operations) of Chai Wai Division Tse Ka-ho, Police Community Relations Officer of EDIST Lau Tak-yi, and Manager (Beach) Southern 1 of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department Mr Chan Ka-ki.


Some local community leaders, including Chairman of Eastern District Council Mr Wong Kin-pan, Chairman of Eastern District Fight Crime Committee Mr Leung Chi-kong, Southern District Councillor Mrs Chan Lee Pui-ying, Chairman of Shek O Residents Association Mr Poon Sin-kwan, Vice-chairperson of Shek O Women's Association Ms Wong Yuet-sin, Chairperson of Big Wave Residents Association Ms Wong Wai-lan, also joined with EDIST Community Ambassadors, EDIST Senior Police Call and Junior Police Call members to give out anti-theft leaflets to swimmers to appeal to them to take care of their personal belongings while enjoying beach activities.
