The inauguration ceremony of Western District (WDIST) Student Mentorship Scheme cum Secondary School Support Officer Scheme was held on October 20, with a number of community leaders and principals attending the event to lend their support.

The mentorship programme, which was established by WDIST in partnership with WDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary President Council and TWGHs Jockey Club Lei Tung Integrated Services Centre, attracted the participation of over 200 students from 12 secondary schools. Senior students would be trained to be mentors to help junior students adapt to the new learning environment and curb school bullying.

Meanwhile, 14 inspectors of WDIST joined the Secondary School Support Officer Scheme. They would not only take part in school activities in their spare time to enhance communication with the students, but also assisted the schools in organising workshops, thematic studies, extra-curricular activities and training sessions to motivate the students to develop positive values.

The honourable guests at the ceremony included WDIST Deputy Commander Sin Chi-sing, Chairman of Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) Mr Yeung Man-lee, Chairman of Southern DFCC Dr Chan Yuk-kit, Chairman of WDIST Student Mentorship Scheme Preparation Committee Mr Yip Wing-kui, Consultant of the Preparation Committee Mr Chan Wai-ho and Chairman of WDIST JPC Honorary President Council Dr Lam Wai-wing.
