Chief Superintendent of the Complaints and Internal Investigations Branch Cheung Kin-kwong presented appreciation certificates to 38 frontline officers under Project Lighthouse II on October 27 in recognition of their professionalism, tact and restraint in handling confrontational situations with members of the public. The awardees were featured in four video footages selected by the Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) from the social media in the third quarter of the year.

One of the awardees, Chief Inspector Lo Chi-kan, said that when dealing with large-scale crowd management operations, officers would often encounter spontaneous, confrontational situations and intelligence gathering was essential for deployment of appropriate manpower to handle the case. Two other awardees, Sergeant (SGT) Ng Wai-chak and Police Constable Chui Ka-chun, mentioned that frontline officers would always come across drunken people who might be highly emotional. Therefore, officers must keep calm to make correct judgements on the use of force at scene. Meanwhile, SGT Sze Kwok-wai remarked that officers might encounter provocation or violence by members of the public when discharging duties, and thus they should be familiar with the relevant laws and police procedures to take law enforcement actions resolutely.
