The meeting was co-hosted by the INTERPOL and the Royal Thai Police as one of the events of Project Asian Organized Crime of INTERPOL. Under the project, the Asia-Pacific Expert Group on Organized Crime was established to facilitate intelligence exchange and conduct joint operations among organized crime experts of various jurisdictions.

Superintendent Lui Che-ho, who is seconded to work in the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, co-ordinated the meeting in Phuket. A total of 42 criminal investigation officers from nine member jurisdictions attended the meeting, during which they discussed strategies in combating illegal gambling activities in connection with World Cup 2018.

Mr Man said, "In order to effectively fight against international organized crimes, jurisdictions have to maintain a high degree of co-operation. It is for this reason that we need to strengthen the network of the Asia-Pacific Expert Group on Organized Crime."
