The Special Duties Unit (SDU) conducted a workshop about Immediate Tactical Intervention (ITI) on January 6 and 7 to enable the related regions/formations to standardise their approach in providing ITI training to frontline officers. Some 50 participants from the Emergency Units of all land Regions, the Small Boat Division from Marine Region, the Counter Terrorism Response Unit, the Airport Security Unit, the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters and the Weapons Training Division attended the workshop.

The first day of the workshop covered lectures on ITI concepts, group discussion and scenario walk-throughs to encourage the participants to cultivate an in-depth understanding of ITI, followed by tactical exercises. The second day of the workshop empowered the participants to optimise long-term ITI training programmes. They played the role of instructors to design, facilitate and conduct ITI training courses with reference to the practical situation of their respective region/formation. This raised their effectiveness in sharing the knowledge gained in the workshop with their colleagues.

The workshop enabled the participants to develop a holistic training concept on ITI, thereby boosting their responsiveness to terrorism or other major violent incidents.
