The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) hosted a Cyber Security Seminar at the Police Headquarters on January 31 to raise the awareness of critical infrastructure stakeholders about email security. The seminar attracted the participation of over 380 professionals from the banking and financial industries, communication trades, government departments as well as public services and transportation sectors.


With a rapid rise in the number of individual and corporate email users in the world, Superintendent of the Cyber Security Division Tsang Nga-sze alerted the audience of a dramatic increase in business email scams and growing monetary losses. Two cyber security experts shared the global trend of email-based cyber attacks and prevention tips. Then Senior Inspectors Cheng Chak-yan and Wong Tik-ki spoke about the modus operandi of email frauds and the proposed solutions respectively.


The speakers also highlighted the best practices in preventing ransomware attack and encouraged the attendees to devise measures to mitigate email-based cyber attacks. The attendees found the seminar practical as it provided them with useful information for reference in formulating computer security measures.
