A seminar on Cardiac Diseases was run by the Welfare Services Group under the "WeCare Project" at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on June 8.

Specialist in Cardiology Dr John Wong was invited to explain the causes and symptoms of cardiac diseases and suggest ways of prevention. This increased the participants' knowledge and concern for cardiac health.

Meanwhile, Senior Police Constable Wong Lai-on and Police Constable Lam Wun-yan shared their experience of helping others and getting help under the "WeCare Project". Suffering from leukemia, Mr Wong was initially emotionally upset, but then he learned to accept his illness and has even offered peer counselling to another officer with leukemia. On the other hand, Mr Lam who was injured in a gunshot incident was thankful for the support of an officer with similar injuries. Both Mr Wong and Mr Lam encouraged Force members to join the "WeCare Project" to help colleagues or their families in need.

The "WeCare Project" is rolled out by the Welfare Services Group with the aim of building a support network among Force members, running health seminars and setting up a database of medical information. If you are interested in joining the project, please contact your Regional Welfare Office.
