Officers of Crime Marine Regional Headquarters held a meeting with officers from six divisions of Marine Outer Waters District and Marine Port District on November 7 about the promotion of "Project Eyes". The project aims at enhancing public awareness of crime prevention and promoting the spirit of neighbourhood watch among villagers, fishermen and ship owners.

The project was rolled out by Crime Marine Regional Headquarters in mid-2017 to encourage villagers on northern Lamma Island to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) in their premises or shops in an attempt to prevent burglaries. The project has proved effective with strong support of the Islands District Fight Crime Committee.

Recently, Marine Region has decided to extend the project to other divisions with the aim of combating theft from vessel, the crime of taking conveyance without authority, criminal damage and other crimes at sea. As crimes may occur in any waters, pier, typhoon shelter or yacht club in Hong Kong, different formations should make a concerted effort to support "Project Eyes" and fight crime by making good use of technology.

At the meeting, the officers analysed the crime situation and discussed publicity measures of "Project Eyes". Furthermore, a technician of a private company was invited to give a presentation on new technology of CCTV to pave the way for the extension of the project.
