Traffic New Territories South (T NTS) collaborated with the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) to refurbish the Sha Tin Road Safety Park earlier. T NTS organised an open day of the park in conjunction with the Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol (HKRSP) (New Territories South Region) on November 24. A prize presentation ceremony of a road safety colouring and banner design competition was also held on the same occasion.

Officiating at the ceremony were Deputy Regional Commander of NTS Kwan Chui-ching, District Officer (Sha Tin) Miss Amy Chan, Chief Superintendent of Traffic Branch Headquarters Martin Cadman, Senior Superintendent (T NTS) Michael Armstrong, District Leisure Manager (Sha Tin) of LCSD Ms Lo Lai-fong, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) of HKRSP Dr Liu Kai-ming, and Ms Prudence Mak who created cartoon characters to promote road safety.

The open day was kicked off with a parade and demonstration of traffic hand signs by a RSP children team, followed by an opening speech by Ms Kwan and presentation of awards to the winners of the competition. A pop band and non-ethnic Chinese students staged singing and rap performances.

The event also featured the debut of a new road safety cartoon animation, kids riding mini police cars and motorcycles, parents playing augmented reality games on smart phones with their kids, and the participants taking photographs with the new safety mascot. Over 200 parents and their children took part in the event.
