In partnership with District Fight Crime Committees and owners’ corporations, the Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories North has implemented “Project North-i” to encourage the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at low-security buildings.

The first phase of the project was completed in March 2019 with the installation of 17 CCTV systems in 11 buildings. No burglary cases were reported to the Police in the participating buildings after the installation of CCTV systems. The project yielded positive results. The residents also found that the security level and access control of the buildings were safer than ever. In addition, the operation of the CCTV systems has been smooth and no maintenance reports have been received so far.

With a view to benefiting more eligible buildings, the second phase of the installation work was concluded in April 2020. In order to enhance the communication with different stakeholders in the community and prepare for the next phase of the project, a presentation was held on May 19 during which Regional Commander of New Territories North Mak Chin-ho expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for their support to the project.
