Commissioner Tang Ping-keung paid a visit to the School of Foundation Training on September 11. The Commissioner, accompanied by Acting Deputy Director (1) of the Police College Ng Chi-chung, first met with the passing out intakes, Probationary Inspector (PI) Courses No. 656-658 and Recruit Police Constable (RPC) Courses No. 2441-2443. The Commissioner shared his valuable policing experiences and reminded the trainees that police work has become significantly more challenging in this increasingly politicised society. He encouraged them to always keep their responsibilities in mind and to never forget that they joined the Force to serve Hong Kong with honour, duty and loyalty. The Commissioner also held small informal group discussions with the trainees, to understand their training progress and express his expectations towards these passing out intakes.

The Commissioner then met with a cross-section of training staff and had a thorough discussion with them on a series of topics, including training objectives and welfare issues. The Commissioner expressed his view that training should focus on integrity and mindset training. He also reminded training staff to strengthen trainees’ adaptability and skills in handling different situations and emphasised that it was particularly important to educate trainees on how to address matters with a positive attitude and manner.

To better understand the use of new technology in training, the Commissioner then participated in a demonstration of a Virtual Reality (VR) scene package given by Superintendent of Recruit Police Constable Training Division Tsang Chiu-fo and the Chief Inspector of Learning Technologies Division Heung Tsz-kwong.

The Commissioner also inspected several new facilities during the visit, including the newly erected flagpoles on the Drill Square and the Integrity Management (IM) Trail, which requires recruits to answer a series of 25 IM related questions en-route. Staff and trainees thanked the Commissioner for his visit, which was very much welcomed and appreciated.
