Last month, the Police Community Relations Office of Central District (CDIST) had the honour to conduct an interview with former Deputy Commissioner (Management) Chau Kwok-leung and former Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung. In the interview, Mr Chau and Mr Wong shared their aspirations of joining the Police Force and reminisced about the good old days in their police career. Both former Deputy Commissioners had been the District Commander of CDIST (DC CDIST) in the past.

When Mr Chau was DC CDIST in 2005, he had to quell the protests staged by South Korean farmers during the Sixth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization held in Hong Kong. Mr Chau was deeply touched by the citizens who displayed banners on the streets to show their support for the Police. Meanwhile, Mr Wong recalled that he was very busy throughout his tenure as DC CDIST, since numerous public events were held within the district all year round. Nevertheless, Mr Wong thinks that being able to work shoulder to shoulder with his fellow colleagues was an unforgettable experience.

Time has changed, but the perseverance and professionalism of the Police Force will never change. In recent years, the Police have to face an increasing number of unlawful protests and demonstrations. Mr Chau and Mr Wong noted that the social unrest last year had brought divisions in society and affected the police-public relations. However, they are delighted that a lot of citizens and community leaders strongly support the Police in curbing violence and upholding law and order. Many people continue to assist the Police in preventing and fighting crime via platforms such as the Junior Police Call (JPC) and Senior Police Call (SPC).

Commander Lam Hung-chuen and Deputy Commander Liauw Ka-kei of CDIST, as well as Chairmen of CDIST JPC Honorary President Council and CDIST SPC Honorary President Council also came to the filming venue to support the production crew on the day of interview.

The interview will be broadcast on the Facebook pages of CDIST JPC and CDIST SPC shortly. Please stay tuned.
