Operations Wing and Information Systems Wing have started the delivery of the Fourth Generation Command and Control Communications System (CC4) Radios to various frontline formations in three phases since December 14. The CC4 Radios were first distributed to New Territories South, New Territories North, Police Tactical Unit and Emergency Unit in mid-December, followed by Kowloon East Region and Kowloon West Region in early January 2021, and Hong Kong Island Region, Marine Region and other units in late January 2021.

The CC4 Radio is more compact than the previous model and equipped with more durable battery life and some new features. Officers can conduct speech-to-text Police Operational Nominal Index Computer System (PONICS) check via the artificial intelligence system; they can select other divisional radio channels wherever they are during cross-Region/District operations. This can greatly enhance officers’ communication and operational efficiency. In addition, a total of 63 new talkgroups have been added to the system to meet the operational needs and the needs of future newly created units.

A total of 10 Forcewide Train-the-trainer Workshops for CC4 Radio were conducted between November 9 and 30 at the Police Sports and Recreation Club. Approximately 800 officers became trainers for their respective formations and each of them received a set of training materials. All the training materials are available on the webpage of CC4 Project on Police Intranet (POINT) for officers’ reference.
