Upon expiry of the preceding service contract of the Police Souvenir Gallery, police supporters Phoebe and Travis have become the new operators after being awarded a contract in a tender exercise. The Gallery has rolled out a series of new products since its reopening in September 2020.

Phoebe and Travis hope to develop the Gallery into a brand to promote cohesion among Force members and showcase the professionalism of the Hong Kong Police Force. When recruiting staff for the Gallery, the duo has given priority to family members of police officers to enable them to support their loved ones in the workplace. Also, part of the Gallery’s profit goes to the Police Welfare Fund.

Firmly upholding the belief of “First-rate Police Force comes with first-rate souvenirs”, Phoebe and Travis always strive for excellence in the production. Citing Special Tactical Contingent (STC) teddy bears as an example, the duo studied the uniform and equipment of STC at the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters in person to make sure that the colours, materials and ratio of the product look authentic as far as practicable. Every teddy bear is handcrafted and equipped with gear such as detachable knee pads, an iron shield and protective eyewear, while a plastic strap is inserted in the vest by hand. Notwithstanding the complexity in the manufacturing process, the duo endeavours to show the positive and professional image of the Force through high quality products.

Operating the Gallery is no easy task for Phoebe and Travis, who did not have any retail experience before. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in more complicated logistics process with delivery delays and harder communications with suppliers and manufacturers in other regions. Despite a lot of challenges, the duo finds it meaningful to produce exquisite products to show their support for the Police. They were encouraged by the enthusiastic response and gratitude from police officers when they were promoting their products in various police districts. “All our hard work and sacrifice are worth it as long as our products are appreciated,” said Phoebe.

Apart from selling souvenirs, the Gallery was also responsible for making the medals to honour the police officers who took part in Operation TIDERIDER. Due to the tight production schedule, Phoebe and Travis needed to work days and nights for the medals. As the medals mean a lot, the duo was deeply touched when they were worn by the awarded officers. “The Police put their lives at risk in safeguarding Hong Kong. It would be no regrets for us to support them through our efforts. Therefore, it’s not important whether we make money or not,” said Travis.

Phoebe and Travis thanked the Police for safeguarding Hong Kong and encouraged them not to lose spirits as there are many citizens supporting them. In future, the Gallery will keep releasing new products, such as teddy bears in different uniforms, by following the market trends closely and taking into account customers’ opinions. Please stay tuned.
