The Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) has put forth comprehensive animal protection work since its official launch in February 2021. On October 6, the Chairperson of the Central Advisory Board (CAB), Assistant Commissioner Kwan Chui-ching, chaired the third AWP CAB meeting.

At the meeting, the Secretariat reported the publicity and education events conducted by the AWP Secretariat and Regions in the second and third quarters of 2021, including two school programmes, “Amazing Moments with Animals Student Ambassador Programme” and “Project PetFection” initiated by New Territories South and New Territories North Regions respectively, which aimed to cultivate awareness of caring for animals among students. It was also mentioned at the meeting that the “Mobile AWP Classroom Promotion Week” will be launched in December, during which two promotional vehicles decorated as classrooms will tour around Hong Kong and conduct school visits with “AWP Spokesdogs” Sunny and Zander to promote animal protection messages. CAB members recognised the achievement of AWP in engaging the community within a short period of time.

CAB members also served as the judging panel of the “AWP Plank Challenge” competition during the meeting and selected the awardees for individual and group categories, as well as the “Funniest Video Award” and “Performance of Power Award”. The winning videos have been uploaded to the Hong Kong Police Facebook page and AWP’s webpage.
