To promote design thinking and creative problem solving skills among Force members, the Information Systems Wing (ISW) has opened the newly built Sprint Room on the 25th floor of the Police Headquarters. The Sprint Room is designed to be a modern, comfortable, and versatile workspace that aims to stimulate creativity and out-of-the-box thinking for officers from different units across the Force to develop new digital policing applications.
On December 2, a group of experienced frontline crime officers were the first to use the Sprint Room for a Design Sprint session on the new “e602 Electronic Case File Register”. The officers were given a tight time frame to identify insufficiencies of the existing Case File Register and put forward feasible solutions. During the session, the participants made suggestions such as the “search function” and the “automatic Bring Up reminders” for handling case files and court dates. The whole purpose of a Design Sprint is to generate creative ideas to steer new designs that would eventually replace old products to help officers work smarter and more efficiently with the use of digital technology. The Sprint Room provides an open, warm and inspiring workspace, which encourages officers to engage freely and come up with innovative solutions.
Senior Superintendent of the Business Services Bureau of the ISW Mohammed Swalikh said, “ISW held a number of successful Sprint Sessions in the past, including the electronic ticketing, the electronic statement (e154), the electronic investigation report (e155), the electronic summons (e287A) and the eLog. The newly designed Sprint Room stimulates creative thinking and encourages officers of all units to co-invent new digital products for the Force, thus streamlining existing work procedures. I am glad to learn that officers found the Sprint Room useful in enhancing their creativity and innovative thinking.”
