To celebrate the 180th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Marine Police, Marine Region organised Community Engagement and Charity Day cum Cross-Harbor Dragon Boat Charity Parade at the Marine Police Headquarters in Sai Wan Ho on November 19. The Region’s community partners, youth groups and family members of the recipients of Hong Kong Angelman Syndrome Foundation were invited to join the event.

The day started with The Cross-Harbor Dragon Boat Charity Parade. Deputy Regional Commander of Marine Region Lau King-lun led the Marine Police Dragon Boat Team and members of the Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps to paddle 8 km from the Kowloon Public Pier to the Marine Regional Headquarters at Sai Wan Ho, demonstrating the determination of Marine Region in safeguarding Hong Kong. $550,000 was raised through the charity event. The amount after cost deduction would be donated to the Hong Kong Angelman Syndrome Foundation to help families in-need. The event passes on the Force’s spirit of care for the community.

Regional Commander of Marine Region David Jordan subsequently started the launching ceremony and introduced the Marine Police’s Crime Prevention Mascots – The Ping On Family – to community partners. The guests were arranged to visit Marine Police Training School and attend the historic docent tour, as well as communicating with the Police Dog Unit and Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit. The Small Boat Division and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team also demonstrated their equipment. The activities not only allowed participants to see for themselves Marine Police’s 180 years of heritage and professionalism, but also raised their awareness of sea-safety and crime prevention.
