Kowloon East Regional Technology Crime Unit (RTCU KE) and District Technology Crime Squads (DTCS) have been established since November 2022 to enhance the digital capabilities of frontline officers in investigating technology crimes. Through organising a series of workshops and training courses, RTCU KE shares computer knowledge and technology crime investigation skills to facilitate frontline officers embracing the challenges in the digital age.

The first wave of the workshops started in January 2023. The commander of RTCU KE organised a half-day course for officers from crime investigation and technology crime units of the districts. The contents covered briefing on the trend of Hong Kong’s technology crime, prevalent cyber attacks and computer log analysis. In addition, the speakers discussed with the participants on the main points of case studies, cyber intelligence cultivation and seizure of cryptocurrencies in cold wallets. 43 officers attended the workshop and opined that it effectively promoted exchange of knowledge and sharing of experience.

To support the frontline officers in combatting the upsurge of technological crime, RTCU KE has set up a support hotline since February 2023 to provide frontline officers of KE with enquiry service related to technology crime and fraud investigation. Officers may call the hotline to contact officers of RTCU KE for assistance on such crimes. In addition to inquiry service, RTCU KE are committed to providing technical assistance to frontline officers who require urgent support.
