Six members of the Police Enoch Fellowship HQ Praise Team joined the first World Chinese Praise Competition organised by Hong Kong Gospel Festival, Jireh Foundation, Chinese Coordination Centre of World Evangelism Movement (Hong Kong) and Media Evangelism. After 300 days of interviews, workshops and rounds of competitions, the team outperformed over 500 individuals or group contestants to become one of the eight finalists in September 2022, and secured “My Favourite Award” with a large number of online votes.
“During the pandemic, we could not sing together but to record individually and combine the clips. Unexpectedly, the new attempt achieved the harmony effect of choir singing, which was regarded highly by the adjudicating panel,” said one of the team members, Senior Inspector (SIP) Young Ming-sze. Superintendent Fong Ho-ying introduced the song created by the team, “To express our mission and passion in serving Hong Kong, we created the original composition Love ● Safeguard Our Home for the semi-final. ‘My Favourite Award’ that we won reflects the audience’s recognition of our mission and passion expressed in the song. This means much more than getting any position in the competition.”
Being the only team-based entry having entered the final round, the team is grateful to be able to stand with other top singers on stage. The engagement that the team has fostered with other contestants and members of the public from all walks of life has enabled them to see Force members through an alternate channel, and gain more understanding about policing work.
