CPR competition

Acting CIP Ma judging CPR in the Philippines

THE head of the Force's First Aid and Cardio Pulminary Resuscitation (CPR) Training Team was invited to judge a first aid competition in the Philippines.

Acting Chief Inspector Stephen Ma Chak-wa was a member of the team of judges for the First Philippine National Red Cross First Aid and Basic Life Support (CPR) competition -Ð held last month in Manila.

It was the first time that a Hong Kong police officer was invited to be an international judge in an overseas first aid competition.

"It is a great honour for me. I think I was invited because I am an experienced first aid instructor in the Force and an approved first aid lecturer of the Hong Kong Red Cross," Acting CIP Ma said.

Candidates for the competition (divided into elementary, college, adult and specialist team categories), were selected from major cities in the Philippines.

"I was impressed by the high standard of performance from the participants. Although the Philippines is a developing country, people there put a lot of emphasis on basic trauma management skills in first aid training -Ð which is very useful in handling a trauma patient during accidents. I hope the present training on basic trauma management in the Hong Kong Police Force can be further enhanced."

"It is considered that the trauma management skills can be developed in our Force-wide first aid training programmes."

Acting CIP Ma said he appreciated the chance to exchange new ideas on first aid with overseas friends. "It was a valuable experience to see for myself the first aid and CPR standards of other Asian countries."
