MOTOR INSURANCE FOR POLICE OFFICERS

BACK in 1991, insurance companies were of the opinion that police officers were not a good risk for motor insurance. This made it difficult for them to find competitive insurance in a market that was not only hostile to police officers but was also making it difficult for the man in the street to obtain motor insurance.

With this in mind, M G Geraghty (Insurance Brokers) Limited introduced a Motor Insurance Scheme for police officers which not only made it easy to arrange their insurance - but to do so at a saving in premium.

This scheme has been running for six years, and at any given time up to 3,800 police officers have benefited from the discounted premiums on offer.

Times have now changed, and the motor insurance market is much more competitive, resulting in other insurance companies now accepting police officers at favourable premium terms.

So the existing M G Geraghty Police Motor Scheme, underwritten by American International Underwriters Limited, has been upgraded to offer both competitive premiums as well as enhanced benefits. As premium is a major concern to most officers the discount for private cars insured on a Comprehensive basis has been increased to and for private cars insured on a Third Party basis.

Below are the enhancements that have been made to the scheme:

* 48% DISCOUNT FOR PRIVATE CARS INSURED COMPREHENSIVELY

* 40% DISCOUNT FOR PRIVATE CARS INSURED FOR THIRD PARTY ONLY

* 100% INDEMNITY FOR COMPREHENSIVE CARS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD (No depreciation or betterment in the event of a claim in the first year)

* 24-HOUR FREE TOWING SERVICE FOR COMPREHENSIVE POLICYHOLDERS

* 24-HOUR CLAIMS PROCEDURE ENQUIRY HOTLINE

* HK$1,000 CASH DISCOUNT COUPON FOR VECTA CAR ANTI-THEFT CONTROL SYSTEM

* HK$1,000 CASH DISCOUNT COUPON FOR CHALLENGER'S KING STAR AUTO MAINTENANCE PLAN

Other benefits available to police officers include the option to protect their No Claims Bonus, and also the opportunity to enjoy further discounts by insuring more than one vehicle through the scheme.

In addition to Comprehensive and Third Party Only covers, policies can be written for Third Party Fire and Theft cover, and if the police officer's spouse owns a vehicle then he or she can still enjoy all of the benefits and discounts of the scheme.
