Wong Hau Shan Quarters
DEAR SIR,
I am a resident of Wong Hau Shan Quarters.
When I moved into the quarters two years ago I was informed that the Government might take back
the quarters in September 1997 for residential redevelopment. Consequently no renovation works
have been done since then. To date, however, there has been no confirmation of these plans.
I would like to know whether the Government will take back the land for redevelopment,
and whether the liquefied petroleum gas system in the quarters will be changed to a centralised one
if it is confirmed to be a permanent quarters.
Yours sincerely,
A resident of the Quarters
REPLY . . .
DEAR SIR,
Conversion of former British garrison
quarters at Wong Hau Shan to JPO married quarters was on a temporary basis.
This site together with other PMQ sites have now been included in the 5-year land sales programme.
The reprovisioning would be made in Kowloon and the New Territories.
After the completion of the new quarters which has been scheduled for early 2001, the residents of
Wong Hau Shan JPO quarters will be relocated and the whole site will then be returned to the
Government for disposal.

Anti-robbery team praised
DEAR SIR,
As a victim of a recent robbery, I write to express
my gratitude to TCRO Li Hong-man and the Anti-Robbery Special Team headed by Senior Inspector
See for their splendid job resulting in the capture of a "suspect whom" all of us in the witness waiting
room felt was the individual who committed a spate of robberies during the past few months.
My confidence in the Police Force grew considerably during the course of the investigation
conducted by the aforementioned team, who were highly efficient and tactful as well as very
courteous and helpful. They even offered to bring the drawing of the suspect to my office instead of
asking me to make a special trip to the North Point Police Station.
Please convey my warmest appreciation and my heartfelt thanks to SIP See and his team
who put in so many hours of overtime and sleepless nights without which the suspect could not have
been apprehended in such a short time.
I am sure that all the other victims join me in wishing you every success in the many
years to come.
Yours truly,
Mrs Edana Leung

Exceptional conduct
DEAR SIR,
Please accept this letter as my way of saying
"thank you" to the men of the Hong Kong Police Force who were involved in handling a traffic
accident which occurred in the early morning of Wednesday, February 4, 1998 in Kowloon.
While the specifics of this case are a matter of police record, it is important that I
communicate the degree of professionalism, poise, sincerity and urgency which two teams of the
Hong Kong Police Force applied to my case.
Challenged by the potential danger of a leaking fuel tank during rainy weather, several
officers quickly resolved the situation. The following individuals from PSU2 E&C TKE: Sergeant
45513, Sergeant 12224, PC 3108 and PC 46123; and from EU KE: Sergeant 46074, PC 47275,
PC 54766 should be recognised.
As an American who has resided in Hong Kong for over 7 years, I was impressed to see
that Police Force members conducted themselves in a manner which far exceeded the standard of
most large cities in my home country. If anyone ever doubted that Hong Kong would maintain its
professionalism after July 1997, I believe that doubt should be erased.
A special thanks to Lo Siu Cheung (Sergeant 45513) who provided advice and guidance
in all aspects of the case including the removal of my vehicle after the danger was eliminated and
the situation secured.
I very rarely write thank you notes for people doing their duty. But in this case, the
performance was exceptional and I am thankful to have been fortunate enough to have had these
men on the scene.
Yours sincerely,
Steven L Wile
