Chinese New Year Police Family Short Pool Competition at POC

THANKS in great part to the newly heated pool at the Police Officers' Club, over 30 families participated in a variety of swimming events at the Force Family Short Pool Competition on Sunday 28 February which was jointly organised by the Police Swimming Club, the POC and the PSRC.

This winter swimming event replaces the Long Distance Swim that used to be held at Tai Mei Tuk beach which was abandoned several years ago due to the danger of sharks ¡Ð and the discomfort of the colder winter waters.

With the POC pool heated to 28 degrees centigrade (coupled with the sunny day), competitors found it hard to imagine that they were actually swimming in February.

Lots of sunshine, warm water and keen competition made the short pool swimming event a big hit with police family members of all ages

Champions on the day included: Chuen Chi-mei, Yan Ho-chun, Martin Cheung and Tania Mak in the children's and youth free style, breast stroke and butterfly stroke; and Chan Sze-tat, Cheng Tze-wah in the open category.

Police Motoring Club's mainland convoy

IN the early morning of last Christmas Eve a convoy of 47 vehicles operated by members of the Police Motoring Club set out on its annual motoring trip to mainland China.

Organised in response to the Force policy of promoting healthy lifestyles, nearly 200 police officers of various ranks and their relatives took part in the adventure, which was captained by Patrick Lai Pak-hay, CSP Traffic.

The convoy, larger than three PTU companies on the move, and commanded by PMC chairman, Superintendent Chan Chun-hing, entered mainland China through Lok Ma Chau and arrived at Kai Ping City in time for lunch after travelling 400 kilometres.

From Kai Ping City, the convoy rolled further west where the travellers received an unexpected grand welcome by local officials at the Yang Jiang International Hotel.

The next morning the convoy moved on to Jiapoh on Hailing Island which is situated opposite Hainan Province. The tour day ended with a grand Christmas party at a local hotel.

In Yang Chuan and Kai Ping cities, convoy members visited several of the area's scenic spots before checking in to the Jinshan Hot Spring Holiday Resort.

The third day of the tour saw much excitement with the convoy climbing a rally course to the Jinjiang Reservoir.

After the climb, the convoy started its return journey by rallying southward to Panyu where drivers toured the Guangzhou Panyu Xiangjiang Safari Park.

At the end of the trip, when drivers reported to the finish point at PTU HQ and all participants were accounted for, a sense of relief was evident on the faces of the organising committee which included SP Chan Chun-hing (chairman), S/Sgt Tsang Kwok-wah (vice chairman), D/SIP Leung Nim-ho (secretary), and SIP Chung Ling-wing (treasurer).
