Nowhere to put the microphone in summer

I ride a motorcycle while on duty and as our summer uniform has nowhere to put the beat radio microphone, colleagues on patrol have been forced to use their own methods. Some simply use a clip while others use plastic phone hooks to fasten the microphone to their right shoulder.

However, this is far from ideal or tidy-looking and is also detrimental to the Force image. I wonder why the relevant units have over the years consulted officers on the issue but still failed to come up with a device which can hold the microphone properly in summer. Perhaps we can consider adopting devices used by British or American police?

I believe you are aware a review on the Force working dress is underway. As suggested, the compatibility of the beat radio and Force dress will be examined as part of the review. The existing beat radio will be replaced when the third generation Command and Control System (CC III) comes into operation in 2004. The new radio is anticipated to be lighter and easier to carry. Because of this, we are already closely monitoring the development of CC III to ensure the two will be fully compatible.

We are also exploring the possibility of dispensing with the cross strap. For this purpose, some nylon duty belts have been brought in for trial by officers to use without the cross strap. As a temporary measure before the launch of CC III, we will consider designing a handy device to enable those officers who are not using cross straps to carry the beat radio in a more convenient manner. If you have any suggestion in this regard, you are welcome to contact me directly.
