Diploma of Applied Education - Police Cadet Training

Starting from the 2024/25 school year (i.e. September 2024), the Hong Kong Police Force will co-organise a full-time “Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) – Police Cadet Training” with three education institutions, including Caritas Institute of Community Education (CICE), Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) and Hong Kong Institute of Technology (HKIT). Students who successfully complete the programme and pass the selection process for police constable may enter the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) for foundation training.


First round of interview were scheduled on 2024-03-08 (Fri), 2024-03-15 (Fri) and 2024-04-21 (Sun) tentatively. Please make the dates for interview and stay tune for further announcement of details.

The full-time “Diploma of Applied Education – Police Cadet Training” co-organised by the HKPF and three education institutions, is a one-year programme with 600 contact hours. It consists of two parts:

  • The three education institutions will be responsible for 420 contact hours, consisting of 300 contact hours of Core Courses (i.e. Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics) and two 60-hour Complementary Courses (e.g. Interpersonal Communication and Personal Development, Career and Life Planning, etc.).
  • The Hong Kong Police College will deliver the 180-hour “Police Cadet Training” Elective Cluster, comprising of three courses, namely, “Police Studies”, “Police Recruit Preparatory Training” and “Physical and Mindset Development”. These courses will be conducted at the School of Foundation Training, with discipline and residential training elements.

Students who successfully complete the DAE programme would obtain qualification deemed comparable to the attainment of Level 2 standard in five subjects including Chinese and English Languages in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, which meets the academic entry requirements for Police Constable. It is also recognized under the Qualifications Framework as meeting its accreditation standards at Level 3.

  • The “Police Cadet Training” Elective Cluster conducted by the Police College will take place at the School of Foundation Training, and will be taught by experienced police training instructors, catering for the latest requirements and needs of a Recruit Police Constable and frontline police officers. Students have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse job nature of police work and participate in a series of adventure activities to foster personal development, build a positive mindset, as well as to gain a greater understanding of one’s self, team and role as a police officer.
  • The Recruit Police Constable selection process will be conducted during the Police Cadet Training to facilitate admission of the students to the Police College for foundation training upon graduation.

Those who fulfil the following eligibility criteria may apply for the full-time “Diploma of Applied Education – Police Cadet Training” co-organised by the Hong Kong Police Force and the three education institutions.

  1. Persons interested in joining the Hong Kong Police Force who are:
    1. Secondary 6 school leavers; OR
    2. Aged 21 or above.

    AND
  2. To join the Hong Kong Police Force as a police officer, one must be a permanent resident of Hong Kong.

Students will be selected through interview, psychometric test, integrity checks and medical examination for the Police Cadet Training.



  1. Interview
    An interview will be conducted in a group setting, with the discussion pertaining mostly to the applicant’s background and reasons for joining the Force.
  2. Psychometric test
    (The test currently aims at testing applicants’ cognitive abilities, emotional resilience and personality traits, where the information will be provided as reference only. There is no pass or fail in the test, whilst the result of the test will not be used as a tool to screen in or out a student.)
  3. Integrity checks
  4. Medical examination

The “Diploma of Applied Education – Police Cadet Training” will be co-organised by the HKPF and the three education institutions.

  1.   2. The “Police Cadet Training” Elective Cluster delivered by the Police College will take place at the School of Foundation Training of Hong Kong Police College in Wong Chuk Hang (Exit A, MTR Ocean Park Station).
  • The first round of application is open from 20 January to 28 February 2024. The interview and psychometric test will be conducted in March and April 2024.
  • The second round of application ends on 21 July 2024.
  • The “Diploma of Applied Education - Police Cadet Training” will commence in September 2024.

Diploma of Applied Education - Application Procedure

To encourage continuing education, the Government will provide different kinds of subsidies to students of DAE programme, including tuition fee reimbursement, Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme, Student Travel Subsidy Scheme, Internet Subsidy Scheme, Flat-Rate Academic Expense Grant and others.
