Tucking in at the new Arsenal House dining room
POLICE Headquarters staff with tummy grumbles should head for the new kiosk atop Arsenal House and its dining room on the fourth floor.

The facilities were launched last week to replace the 20th-floor restaurant and second-floor canteen of May House which were closed to make way for the building's redevelopment.

Squash balls have been swapped for meatballs in the new fourth-floor eatery which is set up in one of the building's squash courts to provide air-conditioned comfort. It also features an additional sitting-out area fitted with a TV where diners can relax after a meal.

The open rooftop take-out area also has some garden furniture so diners on-the-go can have a quick snack while looking out at the scenic views of Admiralty and Wan Chai north.

The four-year contract was awarded to Maxim's Caterers Limited after an open tender exercise and the facilities can cater to about 2,000 daily.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are on offer each day at reasonable prices, along with assorted snacks and side items from 7 am to 9 pm. Food and refreshments are available in both Chinese and Western styles.

Force plaques a hang-up

THE evening of Thursday April 1 saw a unique and historic event in the Police Officer Club's Verandah Bar as the first collection of current Formation wall plaques were ceremoniously "Up-Hung" at a special Happy Hour.

Club Assistant Manager Robbie McRobbie explained: "Everyone is familiar with the Police Training School's fantastic display of military plaques, but no one had ever gathered together the badges of the Force's own Formations."

Altogether a total of 31 plaques were donated by various units throughout the six Regions, Operations Wing, Crime Wing, Security Wing and Training Wing. The Force plaque itself was hung by Senior Inspector Dave Williams, recognised as something of a Force historian.

He said: "I expect this collection to be of interest not only to serving officers and their families, but also to colleagues visiting from overseas forces who often attend courses and seminars at the POC".
