Wong dominates championship
POLICE Tennis Club committee member Ricky Wong won both the singles and doubles events in the 1999 Hong Kong National Tennis Championships on March 20.

Wong walked away with the trophies after blitzing over 600 players to take out the two events, adding to his string of victories in other tournaments.

The championship, which took place at Victoria Park, is one of the three major tennis tournaments in Hong Kong. Wong said it was a real challenge to his skills, strength and willpower to take part in both the singles and doubles events.

DDC KWT Blake Hancock congratulates race-winner Police Constable Kong Tim-shing with a hearty handshake
THE runners from across New Territories South were out in force for the sixth annual Shing Mun Race held on March 26, which saw Kwai Tsing District romp away again.

Some 75 officers swarmed the Shing Mun paths to partake in the event which was blessed with perfect weather.

Overall winners were Kwai Tsing who continued their dominance of the event, lodging their fifth victory in a row. Deputy District Commander Kwai Tsing Blake Hancock accepted the trophy on the team's behalf.

Although some of the "runners" seemed to opt for a brisk walk in the country park air instead, Kwai Tsing's PC Kong Tim-shing was the human Ferrari of the run, completing the 9.5-kilometre course in 34 minutes, 32 seconds. The slowest runners clocked-in at just an hour.

Woman Sergeant Wong Yin-yee of Lantau District was the first woman to finish the event, taking out the Ladies Trophy.

Crime on the court

THE Fight Crime Cup Three-a-side Basketball Competition attracted a huge number of participants on March 27 and 28, highlighted by an exhibition match between television cops and the real thing.

Some 32 men's and 16 women's teams participated in the knock-out competition held on the courts of Ming Kei College in Tai Kok Tsui, and organised by the Mong Kok District and the Jonior Police Call of Mong Kok.

The event's prelude was a friendly match between the crime officers of MK and the actors of TVB drama series Detective Investigation Files IV, for a five-a-side, 15 minute battle.

Cheers erupted about halfway through the match as TV personality Lee Shan-shan and Police Community Relations Officer MK Lau Wai-fun joined in to add to the fun.

The crime busters outplayed the guests and took the match 21-16.
