Commencement of the Force’s first training programme accredited Level 6 of Hong Kong Qualifications Framework


In March, the Hong Kong Police College launched its first accredited Qualifications Framework Level-6 programme, namely the International Executive Development in Policing Programme. The programme is run collaboratively by the Police College and the Canadian Police College. It lasts for 13 months, with three on-line and two classroom phases.

One-arm push up world record set


The Police Public Relations Branch and the Society for Abandoned Animals co-organised the One-Arm Push Up Challenge to promote the messages of caring for animals and respecting life, as well as to raise funds for abandoned and disabled animals. During the closing ceremony of the event, 300 regular and auxiliary police officers and sports elites did one-arm push ups together and set a record for the 'Most people performing one-arm push ups’ in the Guinness World Records.

Force awarded Asia Recruitment Awards by Human Resources magazine


The Force clinched three awards in the Asia Recruitment Awards 2018 (Hong Kong) organised by Human Resources magazine, namely the Silver Award for the Best Graduate Recruitment Programme, the Silver Award for the Best Recruitment Advertising Strategy and the Bronze Award for the Best Career Website. The awards recognised the Force’s outstanding human resources management strategies and practices.

Establishment of the Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit


The Inter-departmental Counter Terrorism Unit was established on April 23 under the co-ordination of the Security Bureau. It comprises members from the Hong Kong Police Force, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, Correctional Services Department, Fire Services Department and Government Flying Service. It complements the existing government structure on counter-terrorism (CT) and is dedicated to enhancing the integration and analysis of CT intelligence, co-ordinating inter-departmental CT efforts and advising the Secretary for Security on all CT-related matters.

Hong Kong Police College wins Elite Change Management Award of HKIHRM HR Excellence Awards 2017/18


Hong Kong Police College’s Project CHANGE TO DIVERSITY POLICING won the Elite Change Management Award at the HR Excellence Awards Ceremony 2017/18 held by the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management. The award showed recognition of the Force’s outstanding change management strategies and practices on human resources.

Operation of Police Reporting Centre at Hong Kong Port Area of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link


The 26-kilometre long Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) came into service on September 23. West Kowloon Station is the southern terminus of the XRL with a Police Reporting Centre established at its Hong Kong Port Area. Occupying an area of 150 square metres, the Police Reporting Centre provides round-the-clock service for the public on case reports and general enquiries.

Force hosts Cyber Security Consortium 2018


The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau held the Cyber Security Consortium 2018 at the Police Headquarters from October 23 to 25, aiming to raise local awareness of cyber security and strengthen collaborations with other law enforcement agencies and the information technology sector. The consortium attracted more than 600 law enforcement officers, industry leaders and cyber security experts from around the world.

Operation of new police base at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge


A Police Base was set up at the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) to tie in with the commissioning of the HZMB on October 24. The Police Base is connected with the Incident Control Tower and equipped with a multi-directional closed-circuit television and broadcasting system to ensure public safety and manage police resources on the bridge and at the port. Apart from the Police Base, a Police Reporting Centre was set up in the Passenger Clearance Building to provide round-the-clock service for the public.

Force presented Outstanding Family-Friendly Employment Practices award


The Force was presented the Outstanding Family-Friendly Employment Practices award at a presentation ceremony of the 2017/18 Family-Friendly Employers Award Scheme, making it the first government department to have received such an award. As an employer with over 34,000 employees, the Force will continue to adopt a people-oriented management approach and implement a range of family-friendly practices.

Establishment of Railway Response Team


In the wake of an increase in terrorist attacks on railway systems across the world, the Force set up the Railway Response Team to strengthen its CT preparedness and make immediate intervention in terrorist attacks and other major incidents on the railway system. Under the establishment of Railway District, the team comprises 34 officers who are responsible for patrolling in the District and maintaining a high-profile police presence at high-risk and major interchange stations. It came into operation on December 23.
