Secretary for Security (S for S) Mr Lee Ka-chiu took part in an activity of Project Gemstone and talked with Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) officers and students during his visit to Yau Tsim Mong District on October 10.

He visited Yau Ma Tei Police Station in the company of Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council Mr Ip Ngo-tung, Vice Chairperson Ms Wong Shu-ming, District Officer (Yau Tsim Mong) Mrs Laura Aron and Commander of Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Chow Yat-ming.

Under a guided visit by four NEC graduates of Project Gemstone, namely Inspector Singh Gimandeep, Police Constables Ifzal Zaffar and Khan Saheed Abbas, as well as Auxiliary Police Constable Kaur Mukhjot, Mr Lee joined a group of NEC primary students of Yaumati Kaifong Association School to tour the facilities and equipment at the police station and watched a performance by police dogs. He interacted with the participants in a joyful atmosphere.

Launched by YTDIST in 2013 to promote integration between local and NEC communities, Project Gemstone aims to help aspiring NEC youths to improve their Chinese language proficiency in an attempt to join Hong Kong's disciplinary forces or other government departments.
